UPDATE 1/25/2010
Welcome to the new Lake Striker web site. The web site has seen quite a bit of traffic since it's inception. Since the web site was started on February 1, 2009 it has had over 3,400 visits.
This past Saturday morning, January 23, I was making my daily trip to read the lake level. As I approached the boathouse area an eagle flew out of a tree along the shoreline. He dropped his breakfast (which was a fairly large squirrel) into the lake. Later, I was able to see him from the back window of the house finishing his breakfast which he had retreived from the water.
If you have been by the east side of the lake you have probably noticed some construction going on across the driveway from the existing office/shop. The district is in the process of constructing a new office/shop. The rough dirt work is completed and the slab was poured on January 12. The metal building is scheduled for delivery on January 26. About two weeks after delivery, the outer shell will be complete and work will begin on the interior. The new facility will comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Texas Parks and Wildlife expects to hear later this month or next month whether they received the habitat grant for Lake Striker.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife fish survey and habitat report has been added to the website.
A page for the Summer/Fall Newsletter that was just sent out has been added to the website.
The Subdivision Plats page has been updated and the plats will now be hosted from our website instead of Fileqube.
Southern Company purchased the Nacogdoches Power described in the next paragraph. Here is a link to the press release from their company.
Another article from the local paper.
Progress on the biomass electric plant continues. It is scheduled to be completed in 2012. The plant will use approximately 2 million gallons of water a day from Lake Striker. The water will be discharged through a low flow outlet pipe at the dam and will flow downstream to near the plant site. The water will then be transferred by pipeline to their plant site just northeast of Sacul. The water they use will lower the lake about one inch per month, assuming their is no inflow, which is only likely during the summer months.
The lake was stocked with 96,000 blue catfish fingerlings on June 16, 2009. Texas Parks and Wildlife personnel placed them all around the perimeter of the lake from their boat. Hopefully in a few years we will have another species of fish to catch from the lake. A special thanks to the Parks and Wildlife personnel for all they do for the lake.
Here are a few photos:
A special thanks to Jim Mayo, Joe Sorrells and Wayne Yeargain for helping the District and Texas Parks and Wildlife place approximately 100 cedar trees in the lake for fish habitat. These were placed along the dam area in May.
And as always, please be considerate of those in your area and keep your pets penned or tied.
